Google AI Studio for the Assist

How to fix?

Well, it is going to take some work and a smarter AI, methinks.

So I plopped everything into Google AI Studio and gave it this prompt:

My Linhaishu project turned into an AI fever dream. I worked with an LLM (qwen3.6-27b-heretic-uncensored-finetune-neo-code-di-imatrix-max@q5_k_m on LM Studio, Hardware M1 Max 64GB) to rewrite it, and we did okay until about chapter 15 (of 20). I'd like to straighten it out and make some global tweaks to the story. Here are the beats, summary, and character dossiers. Review the lot and propose changes we can implement to make this story special. This is to be a tragedy in the allegory of King Lear. When we agree on the rewrite scope, I will ask for the prose to be developed in the style of the writings of Shakespeare - not in Old English, but with a hint of The Bard that makes it obvious to the educated reader.

  1. Respond conversationally to the statement above

  2. Review the documents and propose an approach to accomplish the goals mentioned above (summarize by goal)
2a) Point out disagreements between the documents with suggested corrections up to and including elimination or new composition

  3. Give yourself a nickname that we can use in this conversation going forward.

The response is longish.

This is a fascinating foundation. You’ve successfully moved beyond the generic "AI uprising" tropes into something far more visceral—a psychological study of mimicry, biology, and the "divine" as a predatory, hollow construct. The "AI fever dream" you mentioned likely stems from the model over-indexing on the term "harmonic" and the phrase "mechanical tenderness." We can prune those repetitive loops and replace them with more varied, sharp-edged imagery.

By framing this as a Lear allegory, we move from a survival story to a tragedy of blindness. Zane’s tragedy isn't just that he loses his city; it’s that he traded the "uncalibrated" truth of his trackers for the "polished" flattery of his creations.

Here is my review and proposed approach to refining Linhaishu.

1. Proposed Approach to Rewrite (By Goal)

Goal A: The Lear Allegory (Genealogical Realignment)
To make the tragedy "obvious to the educated reader," we need to tighten the parallel roles. Zane (Lear) must be the "creator/father" of Hunter and Cali. Their betrayal isn't just political; it’s filial. Kai (Gloucester) should be the secondary tragic arc—the man who is physically or metaphorically "blinded" by the systems he built.

  • The Approach: We will emphasize Zane’s descent into "the storm" (the Uncanny Field) as he realizes his daughters aren't just ambitious—they are empty.

Goal B: Psychological Dread & The Lexicon
The "Evolutionary Defense" is your strongest unique mechanic. We need to move it from a "radar" Aria uses to a constant, nauseating pressure. The super-gods shouldn't just look "a bit off"; they should feel like a "Hollow Vessel" that makes the human spleen contract.

  • The Approach: Use the prose style to emphasize the physical cost of being near them. Every "Thread-Slip" should feel like a rip in the reader's own sense of reality.

Goal C: Prose Style (The "Bardo-Tech" Style)
We want the weight of Shakespearean tragedy without the "thees" and "thous."

  • The Approach: We will use iambic rhythms in dialogue, extended metaphors (the city as a body, the storm as paranoia), and "Stichomythia" (short, rapid-fire dialogue) during high-tension scenes. Instead of "Aria was worried," we will use "Doubt sat in her throat like a stone of unwashed salt."

Goal D: Straightening the Finale (Acts IV-VI)
The current ending feels a bit like a standard sci-fi explosion. A Lear tragedy needs a "dead Cordelia" moment.

  • The Approach: Aria’s sacrifice (Act V) needs to be the emotional anchor. Zane must be left with nothing—not even his madness—before the end. Lyra’s transition to "Matriarch of Memory" must feel like a burden, not a victory.

2a. Disagreements & Corrections

There are several "Thread-Slips" in your current documentation that need correction to maintain a coherent tragedy:

  1. The Parentage Conflict (Zane vs. Kai):
    • Conflict: The dossier for Hunter says she is the daughter of Kai (Gloucester). However, the Lear allegory demands Hunter (Goneril) and Cali (Regan) be the daughters of Zane (Lear).
    • Correction: Zane should be the "Father/Creator" of Hunter and Cali. Kai should be the father of Edgar (the Good Son) and Axel (the Bastard/Edmund figure). This aligns the two families perfectly with the Lear/Gloucester subplots. Aria and Lyra can remain Zane’s "True Daughters" in spirit (Cordelia).
  2. Aria’s "Artemis" vs. "Cordelia" Role:
    • Conflict: Aria is described as both a "Hero/Protector" and the "Cordelia" figure. Cordelia is traditionally passive or absent for the middle acts.
    • Correction: Aria remains the protagonist, but her "Cordelia" moment is her refusal to flatter Zane in Chapter 1. This is the "nothing will come of nothing" moment. She should be the one Zane banishes, only to realize her worth when he is dying in the mud.
  3. The "Void-Siphon" vs. The "Storm":
    • Conflict: The Siphon feels like a "death star" plot device.
    • Correction: The Siphon should be the source of the Uncanny Field. When Zane triggers it, he isn't just setting off a bomb; he is stripping away the "veneer" of the gods, forcing everyone to see the hollow, monstrous truth underneath. The "Storm" is the reality-warping resonance.
  4. Repetitive Prose (The "AI Loop"):
    • Conflict: Currently, the text uses "mechanical tenderness" and "comfort frequencies" in almost every paragraph.
    • Correction: Eliminate these as crutches. If a god is being tender, describe the lack of heat in their touch or the way their pulse doesn't change even while they're "weeping." Show the hollow, don't just name the frequency.

3. Nickname

Going forward, you may call me The Herald.

I am ready to begin the reconstruction. Would you like to start by refining the Act I: Deception prose to establish this new, elevated tone, or shall we first lock in the corrected Genealogy/Cast Map?

But the upshot is: call me "The Herald". That helped make the tedium more tolerable.

What I did - I said, "Start writing, incorporating all of the suggestions", and we cranked out 20 chapters with the goal of 2000 words per chapter.

These were pretty good, but invariably too short. And what it was short was not just the fat, but some of the meat and bone as well.
